ENDA Vote Postponed Again

The federal bill meant to protect sexual orientation and gender identity may not go for a vote until next year.

ENDA Up for Vote This Week – Transgender Inclusion Likely Withdrawn

Some Democratic leaders are trying to keep "gender identity" in the protective legislation, but experts say it could be pulled at last minute.

There are reports that the U.S. House of Representatives might vote on the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA) as early as Wednesday, but protections for transgender people could be taken out of the bill. The act also bans discrimination based on race, religion and ethnicity.

A fundraiser in November for the DeFrank LGBT Community Center was a huge success by all measurements. Cindy Weinbraub, president of the Cisco Pride group, organized the opening night of “A Christmas Carol” as a DeFrank fundraising event.


U.S. Census Reaches Out to Bay Area GLBT Community at Upcoming Events

There will be some upcoming events in San Jose and Sacramento

The U.S. Census has hired openly gay representatives to work with local gay organizations about the Census “people counting” process and how the gay community will be counted.

Representatives from the Census plan to have a community meeting on Dec. 8 at the Billy DeFrank LGBT Center at 6 pm to outline how the Census will roll out its program in January.


Washington State Residents Support Domestic Partnership Law

The new law was narrowly approved.

With fewer than half of the ballots estimated to have been counted in a largely mail-in election, 52 percent of voters had approved the measure, Referendum 71. Voters in King County, the state’s most populous, were approving the measure by a much wider margin.
