The Kite Runner opened the last week of March to rave reviews and standing ovations. As a result to high demand, San Jose Repertory Theatre will have a one-week extension of the world premiere adaptation through April 26th. Along with its originally scheduled performances, The Kite Runner will now be presented on six additional dates: April 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 and 26.
“We are extremely pleased that this exquisite and moving play, with all its South Bay connections, is hitting a chord with our community,” remarked Nick Nichols, managing director of San Jose Rep. “The response has been phenomenal and we are delighted to be able to extend performances for an additional week.”
Strong ticket sales reflect the remarkable success of The Kite Runner, which has received rave reviews from the press. San Francisco Chronicle said, “Matthew Spangler’s adaptation is so faithful to the events, characters and spirit of Khaled Hosseini’s best-selling novel that it’s hard to imagine that fans of “The Kite Runner” will be disappointed…”
San Jose Mercury News said, “There’s no denying the raw emotional charge of the story…shot through with shimmering details and understated performances, ‘Kite Runner’ flies straight and true.”
The Kite Runner, an international best-selling novel by Khaled Hosseini is a haunting story of friendship and redemption in modern Afghanistan. The story was adapted for the stage by Bay Area resident Matthew Spangler and directed by David Ira Goldstein, artistic director of the Arizona Theatre Company. The Kite Runner is presented by Hitachi Data Systems and runs from March 21-April 26, 2009 at the San Jose Repertory Theatre, 101 Paseo de San Antonio in downtown San Jose.
