July 9: Eek-A-Mouse (Reggae)
 
  • Eek-A-Mouse, born Joseph Hylton performed in 2002, 2004 at Music in the Park and 2007 at Muic in the Oher Park in downtown San Jose.
  • For more than a quarter of a century Eek-A-Mouse has been recording throughout the US and internationally, averaging more than 200 shows per year.
  • The reggae star’s one-of-a-kind stage name came from a race horse and he has since captured reggae fans around the world with his unique sound.  
  • Credited as one of the founding fathers of singjaying, equal parts singing and spoken-word chat, with the ability to transform his voice into instrumental sounds.  
  • Co-starred in “New Jack City” in 1991
  • First hit was “Once a Virgin” (1979)
