Lutheran Church Approves Gays In a Relationship to Serve as Clergy

Openly gay people have been allowed to serve as clergy in the Lutheran Church for years, but only if they didn’t engage in sexual relationships. But now that has changed.

On Friday, August 21, the nation’s largest Lutheran denomination voted to allow gays in a committed relationship to serve as clergy in the church. This action makes the Lutheran Church the biggest Christian denomination in the country to significantly open the pulpit to people who happen to be gay.

Supreme Court rejects challenge to Pentagon's 'don't ask, don't tell' & Obama Administration Agrees

The Supreme Court agreed on June 8 with the Obama administration and upheld Pentagon policy barring gays and lesbians from serving openly in the military.

The U.S. Supreme Court said it will not hear an appeal from former Army Capt. James Pietrangelo II, who was dismissed under the "don't ask, don't tell" policy. The federal appeals court in Boston earlier threw out a lawsuit filed by Pietrangelo and 11 other veterans.
